Whitney Elizabeth Houston was conceived in a musical family on 9 August 1993 in Newark New Jersey. Whitney is a cousin and daughter to singing superstar Dionne. She began singing in a choir at the church she attended The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark in the early years of her childhood and at 15, she had begun singing backing vocals professionally with her mother on Chaka Khan's 1978 smash Im Every Woman.
