Whitney Houston and Dana Bash
Whitney Elizabeth Houston was the youngest child of the singer Dionne Warswick, and gospel singer Cissy Houston. Whitney Elizabeth Houston grew as a child in a household of musicians. At the age of a small girl, Houston began performing professionally in the choir of her church. She was a backing vocalist for Chaka Khosn's song from 1978 Im Every Woman with her mom. Later, she provided background vocals for Jermaine Jackson and Lou Rawls as well as her mom. The quality of her work as the lead vocalist in New York funk group Material was noticed by big record companies, like Arista and Arista, which she signed in 1982 and stayed the rest of her life with them. The album she released as her debut Whitney Houston was released in 1985, and was the most-seller album of an artist who was a rookie. It featured a number of hits like How Will I Know You're Good to Me, Saving all My Love For you and The Most Beautiful Love of All. It was instrumental in her achieving seven US charts-topping singles in a row which surpasses the Beatles. The album came out in 1987 and sold 25 million copies worldwide. The follow-up album released in 1987 Whitney that included hits Where Do Broken Hearts Go and I Wanna Dance With Somebody built on her success but it was the 1992 film The Bodyguard (1992) that sealed her place as one of the best-selling artists of all time. The film and her part in it were not very well received, but the soundtrack and her rendition of the song by Dolly Parton I Will Always Love You were charting for months on the charts and she sold more than 44 million albums and singles worldwide. When she gave birth to her daughter Bobbi she married Bobby Brown of the ex-New Edition group. Around this time, her drug abuse was well-documented and she was able to use it regularly by 1996.
